This blog is dedicated to honoring those that have served in the United States Marine Corps.
I am using this blog to document my efforts to raise $$ for worthy charities. My efforts are to honor the disicipline, service and sacrifice made by members of the USMC.
Press Release for 6/5/2008:
What is behind a challenge? Well for a Gilbert man, it is about pushing the boundaries of endurance while honoring servicemen. Eric Brandt of Gilbert is preparing to ride his mountain bike from Flagstaff to the Grand Canyon on a 65 mile off-road challenge. Eric is a participant in the Fat Tire Flagstaff to Grand Canyon charity bike ride that not only challenges rider’s fitness and but their ability to raise funds for worthy charities. Eric, a long time participant, decided to take it up a notch this year. “I was not able to participate last year due to ankle injury. So this year I committed myself to raising more money than ever by focusing my fundraising efforts.” Eric has dedicated his ride to members of the United States Marine Corps.
Eric has named his effort the USMC Honor Roll. "I love big endurance challenges, the first time attempted this ride I just barely made it. The second time I was able to do it on a single speed mountain bike and that added to the challenge. Two years ago I finished on a bike that I bought at a thrift store for $12. This year I want do honor the discipiline, service and sacrifice made by members of the Marine Corps."
“I think people do appreciate service men and women who serve and have served this country and I came up with a way for them to show it." Eric is keeping a blog about his fundraising efforts which lists those individuals whom his ride is dedicated to.
The ride raises money for the Marine League Charities which include Toys for Tots, Wounded Marine Program and Flagstaff Arts And Sports Together. It is a great event and 100% of the donations raised go directly to the Marine League Charities, (MLC) Flagstaff, Arizona which is an IRS 501.c. (3) tax exempt organization, EID 86-0944607. “The people I meet all wish me well even if they think I am a bit crazy to attempt riding across 65 miles of forest and high desert in August.” Eric is documenting his effort on a website, contact him there if you would like to support him in his quest to raise money. "I am committed to raising more money than ever and seeing how many people I can get added to my digital Honor Roll."
